About me
I am a Humanistic Integrative and Gestalt Psychotherapeutic Counsellor working with people relationally, one-to-one. I have run my own private practice since 2002. I am a Higher Accredited member of UKAHPP and UKCP.
Prior to my counselling practice, I was a primary school teacher and Deputy Headteacher in three schools in inner city London.
I am a friendly, open person and I endeavour to create a space that feels both safe and non-judgemental. My intention is for you to feel at ease.
I am also a Clinical Supervisor both for Supervisees in their private client work and at As You Are Counselling Centre. I undertook my Supervision Training at The Gestalt Centre in London over 10 years ago. I work with Supervisees individually and in groups. I have worked as a Clinical Supervisor at CRI Drug and Alcohol Addiction Service, now Pavilions and CGL (Change Grow Live). I have also worked as a Clinical Supervisor at Cruse Bereavement Care.
I have a Foundation Certificate in Systemic Family Therapy from Great Ormond St Hospital (GOSH). In our work together one to one, this training can inform our work together with regards relating to, and dealing with, your family members, your parents or perhaps your partner and your children.
I am a member of the Accreditation Committee at UKAHPP which enables me to support supervisees through the accreditation process. This leads on to accreditation with UKCP.
Specialties
Unresolved childhood issues, anxiety and stress, shock and panic attacks, bereavement and loss, low self-esteem, relationship issues, depression, eating disorders, addictions and serious health issues (cancer, heart surgery, chronic pain for example).
I work with students/young people, both undergraduate and MA/Phd students, offering support and counselling during what can be a very difficult and stressful time.
I trained in Mindfulness at The Buddhist Centre in Brighton and use this as a tool and as part of our work together where appropriate, if you would like to. I have also trained in self-compassion focussed mindfulness training which can be a valuable additional resource.
I have fortnightly supervision. I regularly attend workshops and training in Brighton and London.
I am fully insured with Professional Liability Insurance. I adhere to the fundamental values, ethics and Code of Practice of UKCP and UKAHPP – Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners (registered with UKCP).
I am also approved and listed on the WPA register.
